چکیده
Professional discourse is the language used by specialists, such as lawyers, doctors and academics, to communicate knowledge assumptions associated with their respective fields. can be especially difficult for non-specialists understand due lexical ambiguity of commonplace words that have a different or more specific meaning within specialist domain. This phenomena also makes it harder specialists general public because they are similarly unaware potential misunderstandings. In this article, we present an approach detecting domain terms versus everyday English. We demonstrate efficacy our three case studies in statistics, law biomedicine. all studies, identify [email protected] greater than 0.9, outperforming best performing baseline 18.1–91.7%. Most importantly, show ranking broadly consistent semantic differences. Our results highlight difficulties existing difference methods cross-domain setting, which rank non-domain highly noise biases data. additionally generalizes short phrases investigate its data efficiency varying number labeled examples.

Lexical Ambiguity in SNOMED CT
Terminology systems that represent the language as used in human communication have to deal with the problem of lexical ambiguity; i.e. the same natural language term is assigned to two or more codes. A scrutiny of the large international terminology standard SNOMED CT focused on concepts that are linked by the same term and exhibit problems especially when using the terminology in a Natural La...
متن کاملLexical ambiguity in sentence comprehension.
An event-related fMRI paradigm was used to investigate brain activity during the reading of sentences containing either a lexically ambiguous word or an unambiguous control word. Higher levels of activation occurred during the reading of sentences containing a lexical ambiguity. Furthermore, the activated cortical network differed, depending on: (1) whether the sentence contained a balanced (i....

Sentences with temporarily ambiguous reduced relative clauses (e.g., The actress selected by the director believed that...) were preceded by discourse contexts biasing a main clause or a relative clause. Eye movements in the disambiguating region (by the director) revealed that, in the relative clause biasing contexts, ambiguous reduced relatives were no more difficult to process than unambiguo...
متن کاملParsing Against Lexical Ambiguity
Marcus' original deterministic parsing included almost no part-of-speech ambiguity. In this paper, the addition of part-of-speech ambiguity to a deterministic parser written in Prolog is described. To handle this ambiguity, it was necessary to add no special mechanisms to the parser. Instead the grammar rules were made to enforce agreement, and reject ungrammatical sentences. The resulting syst...
متن کاملAmbiguity, Underspecification and Discourse Interpretation
A formal analysis of ambiguity processing is a necessary prerequisite for the development of a theory of underspecification and discourse interpretation for NLP systems. The analysis presented here is based on a distinction between semantic ambiguity and perceived ambiguity. A sentence is semantically ambiguous if it has a multiplicity of interpretations; a form of underspecified representation...
